About Durga Puja

In Sanskrit, Durga means 'the unconquerable' or 'the inaccessible'. She is worshipped as the embodiment of Shakti. She represents the myriad power of the unending universe, a symbol of feminine vigor. The manifestation of Goddess Durga is said to emerge from Her formless essence and the two are inseparable.

The Puranas and Agamas have described Maa Durga in different forms. Commonly she is depicted with ten arms holding ten different weapons (Sword, Conch, Discus, Rosary, Bell, Winecup, Shield, Bow, Arrow, and Spear) and riding a lion. She is dressed is a red sari with finest embellishes with long curly hair. The different weapons reflect the eminent supremacy that helps in controlling the universe and obey Her will. She is not only the divine will personified, but also the supreme goddess who symbolizes knowledge, strength, triumph and victory.
